The Play-or-Pay rule defines how bets on non-starters are handled – that is, participants, teams or players who, for any reason, do not take part in the competition. In such cases, the bet remains valid and is not refunded.
This is because the risk of non-participation lies with the customer and is already factored into the odds calculation. Many bets – such as those on a Grand Slam tournament – can be placed months in advance. The odds reflect expected performance, even though it is not yet known who will actually participate.
Example: If Carlos Alcaraz is considered the favourite long before Wimbledon, he receives the lowest odds, followed by Sinner, and so on. If both Alcaraz and Sinner withdraw shortly before the tournament starts, Zverev automatically becomes the new favourite, and his odds drop significantly. Anyone who placed an early bet on Zverev benefits from having secured a much higher price. This advantage is offset by the fact that bets on non-starters are not refunded.
Exception: In football, for the bet types first goalscorer, last goalscorer and anytime goalscorer, stakes on a player who does not take part are refunded.
Odds indicate the likelihood of a prediction coming true. They can range from 1.00 to infinity.
- Low odds = high probability → favourite
- High odds = low probability → underdog

Odds changes
Odds may change at any time due to various factors: new information (e.g., injury to a key player), recent results or high betting volume on a prediction.
Changes are displayed using colour indicators:
• Green = odds have increased
• Red = odds have decreased
For a bet, the odds at the time the bet is placed are decisive. Any changes afterwards do not affect the settlement of the bet.
A prediction refers to one of the selectable betting outcomes of one or more sporting events. All available betting options in the programme are therefore considered predictions.
Example: In the football match Chelsea vs. Barcelona, you can bet on the winner. The possible predictions are:
- Chelsea
- Draw
- Barcelona
The option selected by the customer – for example Chelsea – is the prediction of the bet.

Figure 1
The betting programme is understood to be the entire betting line-up available at Sporttip.ch and in the Sporttip app. This is expanded and amended continuously.
If a game or a type of sport that you wish to bet on is not available in the betting programme, this may be for one of the following two reasons:
• The bet is not currently available, but will be available soon.
• Sporttip is not authorized to offer the bet.
The bets that may be offered can be found in the list of “Permissible betting” published by the Swiss Gambling Supervisory Authority (Gespa).
In principle, the potential winnings are calculated by multiplying the prediction odds by the stake. Depending on the form of betting, the calculation of the potential winnings is expanded correspondingly.
Although odds of predictions can change continuously, you will be paid those odds given at the time you placed the bet.
Single bet
The potential winnings are calculated by multiplying the prediction odds by the stake.
• Odds × stake = potential winnings
Combination bet
The potential winnings for a combination bet are calculated in two steps:
1. Overall odds: Multiply all individual odds for a prediction together.
o Odds 1 × odds 2 = overall odds
2. Potential winnings: Multiply the stake by the overall odds.
o Overall odds × stake = potential winnings
System bet
The amount of the potential winnings on a system bet depends on the system, the number of correct predictions and their odds multiplied by the stake.
NB: When a bet is placed, the betting slip must always show the maximum potential winnings. All system predictions need to be correct to hit the maximum.
The specific bet combinations generated by the system as well as the corresponding potential winnings can both be seen by clicking the link marked “Details” on the betting slip.
A bet type describes the mechanics of a bet. A bet type is always formulated in a specific question or statement. The associated prediction options then describe the possible answer to the question or statement. The bet is defined by answering the question using the prediction options. It should be noted that there are a variety of different bet types, each based on a different mechanism. The bet types, their mechanisms, and an example are all given in Forms of bet & Bet types.
Example: The “Exact result” bet type is selected for a tennis match. The betting question for this is “1st set – exact result”. With the prediction options, it is possible to answer the question of the bet using the prediction and thus bet on whether this prediction will prove correct.
Three different forms of bet can be selected for Sporttip. The form of betting available depends on the number of predictions selected.
A single bet can be placed from the first prediction selected, a combination bet from two predictions and a system bet from three predictions.
TIP: When selecting two predictions, the betting slip automatically offers a combination bet on the bet. In this instance, if an individual or system bet is preferred, this must be changed correspondingly.
Stake limits
Minimum and maximum stakes are defined for Sporttip. If a set limit is not met or is exceeded, the bet will not be accepted and a Gaming Contract is not concluded.
The minimum stake for a single, combination or system bet (per bet) is CHF 1.00
The maximum stake for single and combination bets is CHF 1,000.00. The maximum stake for a system bet is CHF 10,000.00.
Limits on winnings
There are no limits on winnings defined for Sporttip. However, beyond a certain financial risk that would be created as a result of a payout, Sporttip is obliged to reject newly placed bets on a specific match, race or tournament.
TIP: Wins of over CHF 1,000,000 are subject to withholding tax. With system bets, wins are calculated per single bet.
Furthermore, wins of CHF 1,000 or more are subject to checks. If the bet has been made at a sales outlet, the ticket must be presented to Swisslos for checking. The check can take a few days.
Sales outlet (point of sale)
If a bet that is to be cancelled for any reason was submitted at a sales outlet, the sales staff must be notified of this immediately. The ticket must then be returned to the sales staff so that the ticket can be cancelled.
PLEASE NOTE: As soon as a live bet is printed on the ticket, it is not possible to cancel the bet owing to the dynamics of live bets.
Online
If a bet that is to be cancelled for any reason was submitted via an online platform, a message requesting cancellation and containing the following information must be sent to the Customer Service Center immediately:
• Ticket number
• Reason for cancellation request
The cancellation request will be examined by Sporttip. The cancellation may be either approved or rejected.
PLEASE NOTE: As soon as a live bet is printed on the ticket, it is not possible to cancel the bet owing to the dynamics of live bets.
Tickets for bets placed can be viewed in the game account by selecting the corresponding bet.
The tickets provide all of the information relevant to the bet, such as predictions, stake, potential winnings, match day of the bet, etc.
The predictions bet may be marked in different ways:
• Green = Correct pick
• White = Bet outcome still pending
• Red = Incorrect pick
• Bold = Pick submitted
If the ticket refers to a system bet with one or more bank picks, the bank picks are marked with a black border.
As soon as a result becomes available, this can be viewed on the ticket under “Results”.
