If scratch cards could fly like butterflies
To make the butterfly shown here, we used the following materials:
- Pipe cleaner
- Wooden beads
- Cardboard – painted, coloured, or covered in colourful paper
- Stapler
- Cellophane
- Sticky tape
- Double-sided tape
- 1 Crossword instant ticket
- 6 Minisafe instant tickets
Time: approx. 20 minutes
Difficulty level: 3 / 6
Here’s how to make it:
Step 1
Firstly, prepare the butterfly's wings. For each Minisafe instant ticket, make a crease at the halfway point of the long side. Then curl the ticket into a funnel shape (with the rear on the inside; the marking shows where the tip of the funnel is). Secure the funnel with a staple, as in the image.
Important: Please make sure not to damage the scratch-off coating.
Step 2
Cut the pipe cleaner in half and staple to the cardboard. Now thread the wooden beads onto each end of the pipe cleaner. These are the butterfly's antennae.
Step 3
For the body, roll up the Crossword instant ticket and wrap in cellophane. You can use tape to fasten the cellophane in place. (You don't have to wrap the whole ticket. The cellophane just means that tape doesn’t have to be applied directly to the ticket, preventing the scratch-off coating from getting damaged).
Now put two pieces of double-sided tape on the cellophane.
Step 4
You can then use these to stick the butterfly's body onto the cardboard behind the antennae.
Step 5
Now staple together three of the prepared Minisafe instant tickets for each of the wings. This is easiest if you staple each of the instant tickets together at the corners of the long sides. Make sure that the scratch-off coating does not get damaged and that the overlapping ends of each ticket are on the same side. You can then place two pieces of double-sided tape on the «rear».
Step 6
Use this tape to stick the two wings onto the cardboard.
The butterfly is finished.
